Grown Giveaway!

I’m thrilled to be able to share a brand new book today! Grown : Sophisticated Sweater Designs from the Maker of Tot Toppers, is a collection of wonderful sweaters by the ever inspiring Kate Oates. You probably will be no stranger to her children’s patterns, Tot Toppers. As a mother of four boys she has a wealth of knowledge on designing modern knits for kids that you actually want to see on your kids (her previous book is no exception!), and Grown is a natural extension of her children’s line – each sweater is the adult version of an original pint sized pattern!

Supported with bold, clear and uplifting photography throughout, Kate includes a little back story of the original design for every one of the 10 sweaters, and ample info on tweaks and shaping you could add into these adult versions, as well as a sizing guide, and a great explanation on ease etc. All the ins and outs you need for a smooth sailing knit that will fit you perfectly!

A personal fave of mine is the Plaza hoodie. It would fit so seamlessly into my wardrobe as something that is cosy, but presentable (everyone’s dream, amirite?). And what else I love about this particular one is that Kate used the same model as per the original child’s knit, just a few years older… or, Grown!!

I’m delighted to have one digital copy of the wonderful book to giveaway! All you need to do is head on over and view all the patterns in the book and come back to comment letting me know which pattern you would cast on right away, and I will pick a winner end of day Sunday 11th! Who’s looking for an early Christmas pressie?!

Congrats Anna you won! I’ll be in touch 🙂

I’m so excited to share with you a book that has so many connections for me!

Comfort and Joy: 7 Original Stocking Designs to Warm Your Holiday Season by Melynda Bernardi of French Press Knits.

Melynda, of the infamous French Press Felted Slippers, was one of the first people I ever reached out to when I was beginning my hobby-turned-business journey, and it so happens that this past October we were finally able to meet face to face and spend a weekend together at Rhinebeck! To know someone ‘online’ for so long, and for it to be just as easy and inspiring in real life, well those people are keepers. Anyway, to see this book come to life, from Mel sharing images of the stockings she was making for her family, to people calling out for the pattern/s, and then the determination to gather her thoughts and produce a Christmas book in the middle of the summer – it’s a project of pure love and dedication.

This festive book contains 7 different patterns, all based off one well thought out foundation pattern for the perfect stocking. Melynda then does what she does best and offers many more designs featuring the most amazing colourwork. My hands down favourite has to be the Midnight Clear Stocking, as I am also no stranger to the fierce love of some Norwegian inspired colourwork, but the Jovial Stocking and the Merriment Stocking come a close second. You might remember I test knit Melynda’s Merriment Cardigan pattern last winter, and feel perhaps Louella needs a co-ordinating stocking this year (also look out for the adult version of the cardigan, coming soon, yes?!!!!)
What else I appreciate about his book is the conscious choice of yarn. Harrisville’s highly stocking-worthy worsted weight Highland yarn is used throughout the book, and the depth of colours and the array of colour choices of this US spun wool do not disappoint.

I’ve been a bit quiet over the internets the past few weeks as I have just moved into a new house, down the road from the farm, and with it comes the most amazing fire place and mantel piece! One that you know will be adorned with a wee family sized collection of stockings this year! Want the same? I have one digital copy of this amazing book to give away to one lucky knitter.

All you need to do is comment letting me know which pattern you would cast on right away, and I will pick a winner end of day Friday 18th! Good luck!

Week of 11/7 Drea Renee Knits

Pattern layout

At the beginning of this year I altered my pattern layout to allow for pretty hardcopy printing of my patterns. While initially my focus had been to produce a layout which allowed for no-fuss at-home printing (smaller images and less colour to print), I am now crossing the at-home printing with a pattern layout that will look good on display at yarn stores!

Although my most recent patterns are published in this fresh and clean layout, I am slowly working to bring my older patterns up to speed. I have conquered a few here and there but there were some I also wanted to re-shoot. One of them being my oldest pattern Stepping Stitches. Not only is it my oldest pattern, but it’s also a free one! So click through and you’ll be able to explore my new pattern layout, and some shiny new, gorgeous shots from Krista.
