New pattern, and new yarn.
I have big hair, and lots of it. What I hate most about that are hats that squish it down, the result – triangle hair. With that in mind I designed this hat to be loose enough not to flatten the life out of it, but also one that stays on my head. Another problem that us big haired beings suffer from is the tendency some hats have to pop off the top of our heads after about 2 minutes of being there. A ribbed edging was out of the question. After a few experiments I was happy with a very simple cable that is subtle, soft on the forehead and does the job I want it to do.
Sizes : S, [M, L]
Measurements : To fit head 20” [22”, 24”] around. Note this pattern completes a hat with a loose fit.
Yarn : 1 skein ‘Cobbled’ Spun by Annie Claire [100% organic wool, 4oz, 110 yds] one colour, or, 1 skein Misti Alpaca Hand Paint Chunky [100% alpaca, 100gms, 108 yds] shown in ‘Granite’.
Needles : US 11 [8mm] needles, circular 16”/40 cm long, or needle to obtain gauge
[1 set of US 11/8mm DPNs. NOTE due to the looseness of this pattern you may not need to switch to DPNs and be able to complete the final rounds on the circular needle. The pattern does not instruct you to switch to DPNs.]
Gauge : 14 sts and 18 rows = 4 inches in st st.
Notions : Stitch marker, tapestry needle.
The yarn is ‘Cobbled’. It is a hand spun yarn, bulky weight, which I am very excited about. It is a concoction of wool, alpaca, llama and mohair, left in their natural tones creating this rustic, cobbled path or stone wall aesthetic. Find it in my etsy shop.
